How to write a product review

Blogging on a computerIf you love to try out new products, taste new foods, and try out new brands, chances are that you will enjoy writing product reviews. Product reviews are a wonderful way to let other consumers know about things that you like and things that you don't. Whether you review travel destinations, make-up, hair products, or baby gear, it's important that you write a thoughtful, interesting, and informative review. While this might seem overwhelming, there are a few ways that you can make sure your review stands out from the rest.

The background
First off, always give your readers a brief overview of the company or store that you're reviewing. Is it a family-owned store? Was the food grown locally? Does the company use all organic ingredients? Let your readers know a little bit about the organization that created the product. This will let them know a little bit more about where the item came from and why it matters. Many consumers are nervous when it comes to changing brands, so giving background information on a new company will help create trust.

The pictures
It's also a good idea to include plenty of pictures. If you're trying out a new recipe, make sure that you include step-by-step shots of you making the food. If you're assembling a piece of furniture, include photographs along the way. While you might feel like pictures don't add a lot to the post, the truth is that readers love to visualize what you're talking about. Reading about a new dress you bought can be fantastic, but seeing a picture of the dress is even more powerful.

The whole truth
If you have to talk about a negative aspect of a product, try to remain calm and respectful. Sometimes there might be a problem with a restaurant you visited or with a toy you tried out. For the sake of honesty, you should certainly give a well-rounded review to your readers. Never leave out negative feelings simply because you want to be polite. Your readers deserve to hear the truth. It is however, important that you try to remain as objective as possible, even when you're listing something negative.

Give details
Finally, always be as specific as possible. If you're talking about a great new bike, for example, explain exactly what you like about it. Do you like the colors? Does the seat adjust easily? Are the handlebars comfortable to use? Do you like the basket on the front? The more specific you are in a review, the more likely readers will return to your website for new reviews and more information.
