How to get a better sleep

Cat sleepingIf you struggle to fall asleep at night, or if you struggle to stay asleep, you aren't alone. In fact, many adults deal with sleep problems on a regular basis. Instead of trying to find the perfect sleeping pill or spending hundreds of dollars at sleep clinics, consider trying one of these fantastic home remedies as an alternative to medical intervention for your sleep problems. Sometimes just a few minor changes in your sleep habits can make a dramatic difference in how well you're able to sleep.

1. Go to bed at the same time every day
First off, try to create a bedtime routine that you can stick with. This means that you go to bed at the same time every night. While it's certainly not possible to always go to bed on time, try to make your bedtime as regular as possible. You'll find that your body will adjust to your chosen bedtime and you'll soon start to feel tired at that time each night.

2. Check your mattress
How old is your mattress? Is it too soft or too firm? Maybe you've had the same mattress since college. Maybe you got it for free. If your mattress is more than five years old, it's time to start thinking about investing in a new one. While a mattress is certainly a hefty expense, consider how frustrating it is to get a poor night's sleep. If you suspect that your mattress could be contributing to your nighttime problems, you need to think about getting a new one.

3. Utilize white noise
Sometimes having a bit of white noise can help you fall asleep and stay asleep. Place a small air purifier, humidifier, or even a fan in your bedroom. The sound will help regulate your sleep and will give you something consistent to hear as you fall asleep.

4. Follow a healthy diet
Skip the sugary sodas and caffeinated beverages. If you want to sleep well, you need to be feeding yourself the right types of foods. Opt for fresh ingredients and natural foods as much as possible. While fast food can be convenient, it can also contribute to heartburn and make it more difficult for you to sleep.

5. Take plenty of vitamins
If you don't have a well-rounded diet, vitamins are even more important. Make sure that you take a daily vitamin to get your body the nutrients that you need. Additionally, a lack of vitamins can contribute to insomnia, so always be consistent in taking the herbal supplements that you need.
